Washington “Game of the Week” – Week 1

This year’s I-5 Shootout was just that, but only one team was loaded with weapons. The Lincoln Abes led 41 – 0 late in the 2nd quarter and dominated Roosevelt (Portland, OR) on both sides of the ball in a 54 – 7 win at the Lincoln Bowl on September 6, in the head coaching debut of Masaki Matsumoto.

Gone to Texas are Coach Jon Kitna, QB Jordan Kitna, and all-state TE Devan Brady. Six other starters from last year’s squad are playing college ball. Yet, the Abes scored as many points the the first HALF as they did all game in last year’s I-5 Shootout in Portland (48 – 9).

Six different Abes scored TD’s. RB Dionte Simon had two scores and 107 yards rushing on 8 carries, in his first game since a torn MCL ended his 2014 season in week 8. WR Tony Archie had 4 catches for 95 yards. QB Joey Sinclair threw 3 TD’s, ran for another and was 8/11 for 161 yards. Lincoln was not even full stacked as they were missing WR’s Xzavier Weston and Terrell Bromer who are awaiting approval on their transfers from Lakes HS. The Roughriders’ only score came in the 2nd quarter on a 62 yard pass from back up QB Bishop Dixon to WR Dantae Watkins.
