Washington “Game of the Week” – Week 2

For the second year in a row, the Camas Papermakers scored 49 points on the Federal Way Eagles in a non-league battle of these 4A teams at Federal Way Memorial Field on September 12. Camas built an insurmountable lead by running off 21 unanswered points in the last five minutes of the second quarter for a 35-7 halftime lead and then held off the Eagles in the second half, to finish with a 49-28 victory.

Hard hitting from both defenses, athletic big plays from the Eagles and precision passing by Camas QB Liam Fitzgerald were the themes of the day. One of the more underrated QB’s in the state, Fitzgerald went 32/44 with 347 yards and 5 TDs. Jared Bentley had 12catches for 186 yards and three TDs and Hunter Bruno had 2 TD grabs. The Papermakers are ranked in the Top 3 of nearly every local media outlet.

The two biggest plays of the day came on long TD runs from Eagles running backs Jovan Vongsaveng (85 yards) and Andrzej Hughes-Murray (65 yards) who is widely considered the #1 senior LB recruit in Washington. Gabe Togia connected with Brian Parker (35 yards) and Bobi Sims (30 yards) in the fourth quarter, to make it 42 – 28 with 4:41 left. But, an Eagles onside kick was recovered by Camas who ran off most of the clock until Will Schultz punched in a 1-yard TD with 0:46 remaining.
